If you decide on a family outing at Petrin Hill, we recommend using the popular cable car as a means of transport - your children are sure to appreciate it. The Petrin Cable Car, which is located close to the Ujezd tram stop can take you up either to the Nebozizek restaurant, located approximately at half of the height of Petrin, or to the very peak where you will exit and be right next to the Petrin Space Observatory.
The first cable car run by a system of water overweight started taking Praguers up to Petrin in 1891 and didn’t stop running until after the beginning of WW1. The cable car was renewed - this time run by electricity - in 1932, however, in 1965 the route of the cable car was severely damaged during large landslips in Petrin. Today’s cable car has been running since 1985.
The Petrin Cable Car runs during the whole year with the exception of two regular revisions, in winter with 15-minute intervals and in summer every 10 minutes. One advantage of using the Petrin cable car is the fact that the regular Prague public transport tickets (including the passes) are valid here. Your children are sure never to forget a trip on the Petrin cable car, especially if you connect it with a visit of the Petrin maze or the Petrin watchtower.
