Veletržní palác – National Gallery

The pearl of functionalism, the large Veletržní palác building that features works of art from the collection of the National Gallery, is located in Holešovice in Prague 7.

The building was constructed between 1925 and 1929 according to the design by architects Josef Fuchs and Oldřich Tyl as one of the first works of functionalism in Prague. It became the seat of the National Gallery in 1995 when the collection of modern and contemporary art was placed there. The Veletržní palác offers three floors where you can see a permanent exhibition of Czech and foreign art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection comprises more than 2,000 exhibits. Besides famous painters also until recently neglected artists are presented there.

You can start your tour on the highest floor where you can get by an elevator with glass floor and walls and enjoy the interior of the interesting building from a bird’s-eye view. Besides the permanent exhibition interesting short-term exhibitions take place at Veletržní palác regularly. The basic fee for the permanent collection of the Veletržní palác is CZK 250, the reduced fee is CZK 120 and a family ticket costs CZK 350. The gallery is open every day except Mondays from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m.
