Náprstek Museum

The Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American cultures is located at Betlémské náměstí in Prague’s Old Town. It contains one of the permanent collections of the National Museum, whose aim is to promote a unique ethnographic collection mapping the cultural and historical development of the native inhabitants of the Americas from ancient times until now.

A Czech patriot, patron and representative of the national revival Vojtěch Náprstek founded the original private museum in 1862. Many exhibits come from Náprstek or from his friends and acquaintances from among travelers and ethnographers. Collections comprise objects from all over the world, especially from the North and South Americas, the Pacific Islands and Australia. The museum collection is very extensive and only a part of it is accessible to the public. It is, however, certainly worth seeing.
