If you happen to be interested in various world cultures, or in questions of intercultural coexistence, ethnic minorities and refugees, you might be familiar with the activities of the Prague Multicultural Center. This civil association aims at informing the public about the cohabitation of various ethnic groups in the Czech Republic as well as in other parts of the world. Apart from organizing various discussion sessions, lectures and other events, the center also hopes to contribute to reaching this goal by means of running a public library focusing on these issues.
The Prague Multicultural Center Library, located in Prague’s Lucerna Palace, offers over 2,400 books focusing on topics such as religion, mythology, intercultural relations, legislature concerning human rights, minority rights and rights of women, and antidiscrimination policies. All the books can be read at the on-site study room or borrowed for home. Also present are volumes dealing with the issues of immigration and refugees, gender and other related topics. Most of the offered literature is in Czech and English but there are also books in Roma, Slovak, German, Spanish and other languages.
Apart from a wide selection of books, the library also offers an array of movies and documentaries dealing with the above mentioned topics and a database of newspaper articles dealing with the issues of refugees, minorities and foreigners. The list of book and film titles available at the Multicultural Center Prague can be browsed through in a well-organised online catalogue on the web address below. If some of the listed titles catch your interest, you can study them in the on-site study, or - after paying a rather symbolic CZK 50,- for a yearly membership - also borrow them for home. Visit the Prague Multicultural Center library and witness that by learning about foreign cultures you also learn about yourself.
